Musical Interlude

Iris Luella Dement sings her song, "Let the Mystery Be". Lyrics below.

Everybody is wonderin' what and where they they all came from
Everybody is worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain
So it's all the same to me
Think I'll just let the mystery be

Some say once you're gone you're gone forever
And some say you're gonna come back
Some say you rest in the arms of the Saviour
If in sinful ways you lack
Some say that they're comin' back in a garden
Bunch of carrots and little sweet peas
Think I'll just let the mystery be

Everybody is wonderin' what and where they they all came from
Everybody is worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain
So it's all the same to me
Think I'll just let the mystery be

Some say they're goin' to a place called Glory
And I ain't saying it ain't a fact
But I've heard that I'm on the road to purgatory
And I don't like the sound of that
I believe in love and I live my life accordingly
I choose to let the mystery be

Everybody is wondering what and where they they all came from
Everybody is worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go
When the whole thing's done
But no one knows for certain
And so it's all the same to me
Think I'll just let the mystery be
Think I'll just let the mystery be

I am ashamed to admit that I'd never heard of Iris Dement. But I've spent the past hour crawling the web for more of her songs. What a talent. With her emphasis on country themes (she even collaborated with Merle Haggard), I began to worry that she practiced redneck politics and might show up at Trump's inaugural ball. Then I came across this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F87Ko3o5c4E.

Not to worry. Thanks for bringing her into my consciousness.

Glad you liked it, and thanks for the feedback. She is married to Greg Brown, another of my favorites. Greg is another "country theme" singer. His "Iowa Waltz" should be the state song. He tends to get smaller venues to play in, and often shares the bill with an angry lesbian folk singer.

Anyway, I think the couple lives in a small town in Iowa someplace.
