Barbara Boxer, Ma'am

Am I the only liberal who was offended by this exchange:

The right-wing blogosphere is frothing about it, and I was, too. I've recovered my equilibrium enough to scoff at notions that Boxer "has a problem with the military," as one person put it. But she definitely has a problem.

oh man. I know he cringed at that.
But if he calls male senators "Senator" then he should call her that too.

However, in his defense (no pun intended): In the military it is all "Sir" and "Ma'am".

It is her right to be called what she wants. When people call me "Babs", I rip their tongues out. And that doesn't mean I have a problem with the military.

The general was being respectful in accordance with Military protocol. In my oppinion, she may have earned the right to be called senator. But maybe she hasn't earned the righ to be called Ma'am!
